The tendency of cultures in two different countries

Before the project, we ought to examine the fundamental comparison charts of countries that show what those countries are different. This process helps us that we can understand the gap between countries’ cultures and not to make some mistakes to do comparing. Also, this examination shows some distinctive comparisons between western countries and eastern. There are six parts of comparisons in each culture section.

*This website offers that we can compare each countries' cultures; these are showing Power Distance, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty Avoidance, Long Term Orientation, and Indulgence. But, according to this website, we have to know that statements about just one culture on the level of “values” do not describe “reality”; such statements are generalizations, and they ought to be relative.

According to this chart, South Korea is a hierarchically organized society more than the UK, and socialization of South Korea also emphasizes the group’s culture more than the individual's perception. However, UK society is individually organized more than  South Korea, and they seek more the individual's lifestyle. Thus, between the two countries, there is a distinct gap. 

In detail, firstly, in Power Distance, South Korea is nearly 60 percent, and the UK is 35 percent. That means Korea society is allowed the order of rank naturally more than the UK, and Korean tend to follow it. But, it also shows there will exist a covert conflict by being obeyed.

And then, in individualism, South Korea is 18 percent, and the UK is nearly 90 percent. That means Korea society is a social community generally more than UK society. This rate relates to Power Distance, and Korea society is running with the decision of group, not individuals. We need to consider why some of the younger Korean is an inclination to follow the trend by individualism.

The next is Masculinity, and South Korea is nearly 40, the UK is 66 percent. This figure means that when society’s number of Masculinity is the less, the community is the more feminine group. In general, in female countries, an argument is usually solved by discussion and compromise.

In Uncertainty Avoidance, this figure means the control of the situation in the future. In this figure, Korea society is higher than UK society, that means Korean tends to think the time is the money and in their mind, there is thinking that they want to work harder. However, also, this society does not accept innovation sometimes.

In Long Term Orientation, it shows that when the figure is, the higher, the more adapting to a new thing. South Korea is 100 percent, and the UK is half of South Korea’s number. In general, the UK society does not tend to accept new technology, and they want to put some familiar things in the vicinity of them. While in Korea society, they think to encourage education is one of the best ways to continue to exist in the future. In other words, they earn money and spend some and then keep it and save it for the next generation.

Finally, In indulgence, when the number is higher, the group of people in that society tends to bear their thinkings to the group or someone, and they think the expression of personal feeling is not the best way. Also, society tends to stifle their emotions. Through this chart, we could realize and understand UK society has a strong conservative inclination, but they emphasize individualism. However, Korea society is a bit collective group and hierarchical, but they are also future-oriented society more than the UK. And this chart will be helpful to a hybrid between two different cultures.
